Started my day at the house meeting with another framer - at the end of our visit when he had to leave for another appointment he commented - "Boy, if I would have know this was this extensive I would have given you more time!" What are we getting ourselves into!!?? Overall meeting went well and he will be in touch with pricing...
Afternoon meeting with architect and engineer to sort through some structural issues. Braced wall panel on cantilever - nope....need a standard foundation and need to keep the windows from the corners on the main wall...using the short span shown on drawings for kitchen/living room header - nope....need to line up the supports in the basement with the columns above so count on a 18-foot - yes 18-feet - span for the support beam...can you say HUGE!!?? Front porch support is actually simpler than first thought and a pier foundation makes more sense than a spread footing - let's hope the County agrees.
Sent long e-mail to County tonight to let them know where we are and find out how we need to proceed. Hope for a quick response.
