The siding boxes are great for the garden walkways...I just couldn't help myself - I HAD to add something living to the garden! Our riding lawn mower has a bagger, so I've been adding one bag of cut grass to each "bed" (hoping that it's not full of weed seeds!). I read that adding not-yet-composted organics will decrease the available nitrogen, so I'll have to add some extra. Scott bought a bag of organic fertilizer, plus we're adding a mix of peat moss, mushroom compost, and a chicken manure/humus mix from Home Depot. Come on worms! Planted 12 heirloom tomato plants this evening that we grew from seed --they look so scrawny! I'm tempted to go buy some "beefy" looking plants! A few leaves of corn and cucumbers are poking through the soil that we planted last week-end! The kids were sooo excited (me too!)! The wire grass - or whatever it's called - is such a challenge to pick out of the garden. It's very hard to kill! |
